Sizing & Fit
What width fitting are your shoes?
Our closed shoes (lace-ups) are G-Fit, which is half a size wider in circumference than our standard F-Fit. Our open shoes (slip-ons, such as loafers) are a standard F-Fit. Each product page lists the fit for that specific style.
Do you offer half sizes?
Yes, a large number of our styles are available in half sizes — the sizes offered are listed on each individual product page.
I'm between sizes, or my foot is wide/narrow - what should I do?
If you're unsure, check whether the style you want comes in both F-Fit and G-Fit before you order. If you're still unsure, email customer@samuel-windsor.co.uk and we're happy to advise on a specific style.
Materials & Craftsmanship
What is Goodyear welted construction?
Goodyear welting is the hallmark of traditional, high-quality shoemaking. A leather welt is stitched to the upper and a rib on the insole, creating a cavity filled with cork or cushioning that moulds to your foot over time. The outsole is then stitched and cemented to the welt. This construction gives the shoe outstanding flexibility and durability, and — because the sole is stitched rather than just glued, it can be resoled, extending the life of the shoe well beyond cheaper alternatives.
Do you use any other construction methods?
Yes. Alongside Goodyear welting, we also use Blake stitch construction (a sleeker, more flexible build for formal styles), cemented construction (lightweight and modern, used in more casual styles) and stitched-down construction (rugged and durable, often used for outdoor styles). The construction method for each shoe is noted on its product page.
What leather do you use?
Our leather shoes are made from premium European cow hide, sourced exclusively from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG), a globally recognised body that audits tanneries on environmental impact, resource efficiency and transparency.
What are your soles made from?
Many of our Goodyear welted styles use leather soles made from buffalo leather, chosen for its durability, flexibility and grip.
Where are Samuel Windsor shoes made?
Our shoes are manufactured in India to exacting quality standards, as are a number of the UK's other leading Goodyear welted footwear brands.
Product Care
How should I care for my leather shoes?
Alternate the shoes you wear day to day to let the leather rest and fully dry out between wears, use a shoe tree to help them keep their shape, and clean and polish leather uppers regularly to keep the finish looking its best. Suede styles should be brushed with a suede brush rather than polished.
Can my shoes be resoled?
Yes, that's one of the main benefits of Goodyear welted construction. Because the sole is stitched to the welt rather than just glued, it can be professionally replaced by a cobbler once worn down, so a well-cared-for pair can last for years.
Gift Cards
Do you sell gift cards?
Yes, our digital gift cards are available in £25, £50 and £100 denominations. They're delivered instantly by email, so they make a great last-minute gift, and they don't have an expiry date.
Discounts, Sustainability & Contact
Are Samuel Windsor products sustainable?
Sustainability runs through how we source and package our products. All our leather comes from LWG-certified tanneries, our shoe boxes and information cards are made from recycled, recyclable cardboard, and each pair ships with a recycled, recyclable PVC shoe horn and protective wrap. We've also partnered with Feefo and Ecologi on Treefo, which funds tree-planting for every verified review we receive.
